Title: Bunga Kering Pembatas Buku
Year: 2018
Medium: Video Artwork for Suzu 2017: Okunoto Triennale
Description:

When the 16th Japanese Army occupied Java in March 1942, the supply of coal from Sumatera and Kalimantan to Java virtually stopped. Japan needed coal supplies to power both its industrial needs and war machinery and thus required Japan to start coal mines.

In the past, the Netherlands had repeatedly made similar plans that remained unrealised.

This project required an enormous workforce, not just for mining the coal, but also for building the supporting infrastructure, such as new roads and railroads.

A construction project in Bayah, on the south coast of West Java, was the largest coal-mining project on Java initiated by the Japanese.

Because Bayah is isolated and surrounded by forests, the only way to send coal to Jakarta and other places was to build a railway line from Bayah to Saketi.

The length of the new Saketi-Bayah railroad was ninety kilometers and had nine bridges and nine stations.

"SEMELAH (GOD BLISS)"

Once upon a time in Java. Hindu nearly collapsed. People went back to mysticism. Majapahit was slowly crumbling. Hunger and poverty spread out. Riots occurred everywhere. On a side beach, far away, Demak was glowing. Azan (the Muslim call to ritual prayer made by muezzin slowly infiltrated when spells were still being practiced everywhere.

A man in a black suit with a face covered was jumping above roofs. He was carrying a sack full of goods. Like a Santa Claus, he gave presents to the poor at midnight. People woke up in the morning and found happiness.

On a jungle side, the man in a black suit like ninja was watching over. A theologian was passing. The man dressep up in Ninja, called Maling Aguna, stopped and robbed him. Maling Aguna did prostation to him when the theologian gave him golds he made them from soils. Maling Aguna did meditation in a river bank. He cleaned himself from all his sins in the past.

Mosques were built. Spells had changed. People sang Javanese invocation (Salawatan) everywhere. Maling Aguna woke up from his meditation. He brought puppets from village to village. He taught Islam in Javanese ways.

“CHAOS OF THE LYMPH NODES”

When humans are unable to meet their basic needs and they will try to find another way somehow. Sometimes the way they choose does not involve the communication process. When there is no dialogical communication, then fundamental attitude appears. It is an attitude when one thinks that his thought is the only truth and the others are wrong, and he does not want to listen to others. Thus, violence then is the only way to solve the problems. In fact, this is one of the characteristics of the modern society.

This story plots in family conflict and violence, which tells about the dead-end in the process of dialogical relationships, which in turn creates a 'war' between the pros versus the cons, but when the war ends all that remains is regret and loneliness.

This show called itself as contemporary puppet show, which is a collaboration of puppet show, kethoprak (Javanese opera), dagelan mataram (Javanese comedy) and night fair atmosphere. An interactive fragment of kethoprak is also presented in the show. It involves the puppeteers and the team work.

Nieme Cie (Scenario), Fusion crew: Benkeder Sabrina/Anicet Axelle, Merckel Julie/Macha Sabrina (Chroeographies), S Kiss: Anne-Marie Tanikoy, Gloria Tanikoy, Brazana Tanikoy, M’Bayo Sarah, Sophie Keo, Ingrid Malonga (Chroeographies), One Piece (Break Dance Group), Nathalie Charef, Sakho Diakariao, Bernard Fontaine, Celine Gobillard, Brigitte Molto, Alexsander Sauli, Julie Tachon (Maronnettistes), DJ Ilyass M (Music), François Lamy (Sound experimental), Franck Sarrazin (Singer), Michael Van Sleem (Stage Management), Romain Fortune (Light Management)

The Veduta is one of the projects bringing art to the people to spur creative thinking and bring luster to their everyday life. Other artists in residence were Bik van der Pol, at the Grand Parc, and Robert Milin in Lyon 8 and Venissieux.

The Sucrière, an old sugar factory used as a warehouse until the 1990s when it was converted into a 7,000-square-meter art space, holds the largest part of the works in this exhibition. Entering it is like visiting a construction site, with the banging noise of Indian artist Shilpa Gupta's (b. 1976) iron gate pervading the space, supposedly a strong critique of the prevailing social and political situation.
Cut the Mountain and Let It Fly is the title of another work in front of the Sucrière. Eko is also a star of the Veduta project in Vaulx-en-Velin, where he resided and worked with immigrant residents. Together they created a shadow puppet show, combining the Javanese wayang kulit, the Lyon Guignol theater folklore and their joint imaginations. Excerpts of Rainbow under the Stone are shown within this building.

It is a video about stealing, or pirating.
I found a canned-meat product with the brand name called "Ma Ling" (Indonesian word for ‘maling’ means ‘thief’).
I change the packaging with my own design and logo. Consumerism has made the society disregards the benefit and function of the product itself. We often ignore the truth just because of money, thus the product has transformed into a hidden terror.
